Down Low and Dirty II

Where I Was

The stall was oddly shaped. It stood there cramped. I was cramped… literally. The fecal-box was painted in one of those pretentious colors you find at Home Depot like “Azure Sea” or “Stone Washed Sycamore,” except this hue was probably more along the lines of “Horrid Don’t Touch The Walls Tan.”

My mind was in an uproar. Full of fireworks. It didn’t matter how clean or dirty the latrine was because I knew something had to be done about the disaster of a film sitting on a couple of hard drives somewhere up in the valley. We needed a plan and I needed to come up with it. Read more »

Picture Locked @ Home

Posted in The Biz on September 25th, 2006 by Phil Abatecola

Editron 3000 Finally, Rounding Home has been “picture locked” and one of our producers ran over to the Sundance Film Festival office to drop it off just before the deadline. For those of you not familiar with the term “picture lock” it is the point in the editing process where there will be absolutely no more rearranging of the film’s order of events. From then on out, the real tedious work begins… sound.

A version without our temp music will go to our sound designer, and various other audio engineers, to “design” how the film will sound. After that, we will lay music back over the picture, with the newly designed sound, and mix the two. After that, we “online.” In any case, keep your fingers crossed for Sundance.

Thanks to Ninja Cuts and their boss editing system Editron 3000 (seen above), we are off to the races.

More to come!

Chased Into Sundance

The ClockWell, it’s official folks, I’ve made my first submission into the Sundance Film Festival with my short The Chase. It’s been a long time coming and a long time procrastinated but I’m throwing myself out there. Although, I have yet to tell my co-director of the news. I did call him. I swear I did! In any case, Rounding Home will be submitted by tomorrow afternoon and there will be more information regarding that production up on the site very soon.

There we were, sucking down hush puppies and ribs at Mr. Cecil’s on Ventura Blvd. smack in the heart of the valley. My producer and I were lamenting on the state of the film that had been produced just a year earlier. Things were a complete mess. The film wasn’t making sense, there were serious flaws in the story and everyone hated everyone by this point in the process. Luckily for me, I had relegated myself to the background in order to avoid much of the shit that was now rolling down hill.
