AFI, Last Day

Posted in The Biz on March 31st, 2007 by Phil Abatecola

Phil and James screen The Chase!Rain, thunder and good times have been the gist of our experience here at AFI Dallas. Overall, the films have been very good, or at least very well done, and the people have been wonderful. When I say this, I don’t just mean the filmmakers, but also the staff. Now thinking of this does bring into my mind something James said a day ago. He said, “they really have it down, this illusion that this festival is all about us.” Now when James says “us” he doesn’t mean it editorially as in filmmakers in general, but “us” as in James and myself. When we walk in to any sponsored event, get into any shuttle, which are all Lexus by the way, and when we need to eat or drink, it’s all provided and it’s always for us, specifically for us.

Giant Lizzard People

Does this really have anything to do with AFI Dallas International Film Film Festival?  No, not really.

But, The Chase had it`s second screening today and I have to say that it was again a very pleasurable experience.  People laughed, and in the end, that`s all that really matters.

Oh wait, hold on a second.  Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is playing on television and these Anime chicks are really hot.  Did I just say that?  what I ment to say was that the animation is really awesome.

Speaking of animation, I`ve been whoring myself out while at the festival, promoting Dragon Fire: The Book of Ends, my animated fantasy as much as I can.

Speaking of that, you can find the beginnings of the animationn at www.theonehero.com.  Dragon Fire has been a fantasy series I`ve been writing for nearly a decade and my partner and I have finally raised enough interest to move forward on the project.

Check out my website to follow up and find out how Dragon Fire progresses at any given time.

AFI Goes Off

Posted in The Biz on March 28th, 2007 by Phil Abatecola

And by going off, I mean off the hook! Hmmm… that was a bit too cheesy, wasn’t it.

Arriving at our first day at AFI Dallas was hectic and incredible.  It was pretty much non stop from the time James and headed off to the airport until about now, 3AM… 15 hours later.

The one thing that I’ve always found inspiring about the festival circuit was the atmosphere.  Everyone here is there to support everyone else.  Egos are, for the most part, checked at the door and the vibe is positive.  Critical feedback really isn’t an option.  You’re there to give support and celebrate filmmaking, good movie or bad.

In any case, the film went off without a hitch and people laughed.  Thank God.  Tomorrow we head off to do some interviews and go into the theater again to support our film once more.

But for now, I’m delirious with exhaustion.

Time for sleepy.

AFI Dallas, Here We Come

Posted in The Biz on March 27th, 2007 by Phil Abatecola

On top of Dragon Fire going live this week, James Crocket and I are heading to AFI Dallas in about ten hours to promote our short film, The Chase! There isn’t too much to report as of now, other than all of my clothes have been locked away in the downstairs laundry room leaving me nothing to wear for the week, but I can always get a crazy Texan t-shirt while I’m there. Right? Maybe some bull horns!

Yee Haw!

On a more important note, please don’t forget to support our film on iKlipz.com by watching it over and over. The more hits we get, the more exposure, and who knows, maybe this little piece can get distributed.

Alright everyone, wish us luck in the competition and please come out to the Silver Lake Film Festival if you want to see it projected onto the big screen. It’s gonna look amazing!

Ya’ll…

Dragon Fire Goes Live!

Posted in Dragon Fire, The Biz on March 26th, 2007 by Phil Abatecola

The moment has arrived.

Dragon Fire, the fantasy world I have been conceptualizing for some years now, has finally come to the Internet at www.theonehero.com!

Over the coming months, Anthony Gonzales and I will be driving this battleship of adventure down the road towards production against rediculous odds.

Oh yes, we shall succeed.

For those of you who have heard me yap about this silly little idea for the past decade, well, you all have a chance to see how incredibly obsessed I actually am.

At theonehero.com, you can watch as new conceptual designs are posted, storyboards, animatics and finally the show as it is animated.

Wish us luck.

Sketching…

P.S.  Spread the word.
