Chornhole the Epic?

Posted in The Biz on May 21st, 2007 by Phil Abatecola

Tomorrow, one of my dearest friends and colleagues begins his journey down a difficult and dangerous path… producing his first feature film. This summer, Kent Bernhard has taken charge of doing what most people shy away from, for producing is an amorphous job, full of obscure ideas and treacherous people. Only the brave and wise – some say foolish – dare take on this task.

So Kent has done, and beginning on the 21st of May, 2007, he will travel to Cincinnati and work with Director, Tim Clarke in creating… Cornhole: The Movie.

A comedy, Cornhole: The Movie revolves around a relatively unknown sport known as cornhole, where you take a sack filled with corn and toss it in a hole some yards away. Sound easy? Well, like most things, it probably does until you actually participate. Nevertheless, hundreds of people rise out of the everyday humdrum of their lives to compete in the world’s largest cornhole event every summer in Cincinnati… the Cornhole World Championship.

Needless to say, the script is genuinely funny and the characters bombastically insane.

So please, check out the movie’s home on the web, and be prepared next festival season for the epic only Kent Bernhard and Tim Clarke could make alive… Cornhole: The Movie. And don’t forget to keep checking back for updates, either here or at the film’s website.

A Worthy Draft 3

Posted in The Biz, Unworthy Man on May 17th, 2007 by Phil Abatecola

Finally, after months of distractions and living the new scenes over and over again in my head, I have completed the third draft of Unworthy Man, a film noir about a broken cop on his final search for his sister’s rapist/murderer. Moving forward with this project is a very exciting prospect. Once I complete the play and my other obligations over the summer, I’m going to focus solely on getting this made.

Do or die is the name of the game here. Read more »

The Writing Continues

Posted in The Biz, Time Machine on May 15th, 2007 by Phil Abatecola

Although the work has ebbed more than flowed for me lately, my creative streak is at an all time high as I’ve been writing non stop for several weeks now. First off, I’ve finished a rough draft of a commissioned horror feature, sequel to the film, Effects. So far the process has been exceptionally demanding and there have been several good ideas that have arisen from going through the process. As any writer knows, the first draft is always embarrassing and only through many rewrites does a story truly take shape.

Secondly, I’ve completed a rewrite of my play, H.G. Wells Time Machine, which should open sometime this summer. After that, with the help of the creators of the show A Dollar a Day, I have created a press packet for them and their show. There is some interest from National Geographic and other companies, but any offers have yet to be heard. We shall see.

Finally, and most significant for myself, has been the rewrite of An Unworthy Man, my next feature film. Hopefully in the next couple of months, a very concise third draft will be in place for the process of building my creative team.

In other news, Dragon Fire has been put on hold for a short time as we begin to flush out more of the world. There is some interest from Simon and Schuster Publishing, but they need to see a massive treatment first. That will take some time indeed.

Alright, time to get back to the grindstone and finish this draft.

Tonight is the official start to the Silver Lake Film Festival here in Los Angeles and I’m hoping to snag some tickets to Fay Grim, the opening night film. In any case, The Chase screens next Wednesday at the Los Feliz 3.

Be there…
