AFI Fest 2008

Posted in The Biz on October 31st, 2008 by Phil Abatecola

It’s here again.  AFI Fest is my favorite local festival.  Why is it my fave?  Well, aside from everyone thinking that I’m totally fabulous and good looking, it’s because they show some great movies!  It’s also walking distance.  Oh, and did I mention they show some great films?

In 2006, my friend and collaborator, James Crocket, and I had the honor of showing our short film, The Chase, at the AFI Dallas Film festival.  Both James and I are working hard at getting our next films up and out into the world and hope that we can attend as filmmakers once again. As always, it’s about the story and the scripts are coming along.
In the meantime, I’ll write some reviews of the films I see at AFI Fest this year and some general thoughts about the festival.  Depending on my level of intoxication, I might be typing them naked.  But let’s hope I’m just bearing my feelings instead of my ass.

N-Demand Video is Up

Posted in The Biz on October 22nd, 2008 by Phil Abatecola

Finally, some new content! I’m making a major post for all of you today so that you can be part of the fun I’ve been having over the past few months. Below is a icon/link to my latest project completion, N-Demand. As always, check out its main page for more cool things like photographs of the shoot day, technical notes and other mindless ramblings.

That’s it for now. Gotta get back to my plotting… I mean writing.

Head… Out of Sand

Posted in The Biz on October 18th, 2008 by Phil Abatecola

HOLY HOT ROD!

After having my head buried in the sand for months trying to finish up this music video and CBS’s Big Brother I can finally come up for air!

You know, we often take on projects, chores, jobs, etc, that aren’t excactly what we came out here to do for any number of reasons.  Usually it’s work, though a favor is one of the biggest reasons to take on a project.

I’ve learned a few lessons during my current stint of favors, as they seemed to come one after the other recently.  The biggest, and hardest, is the word “no.”  Usually, it’s not something I’m terribly great at saying, especially to a friend, but if you want to move forward with what’s important and have time to actully do things in your life, then the word “no” becomes an extremely powerful tool.  In fact, it becomes essential to staying sane and not being too terribly poor.

With that said, I am now on a corrective path towards what I’m supposed to be doing, writing and directing narrative cinema.  Usually we wobble.  This time, I kinda went off the map.  Except I didn’t have one of those cool montages where you see that plane flying over an antique map, complete with a red line so I could find my way back.  Not even a blessed handful of fucking bread crumbs!  No way, no how.  I left the bloody reservation, lifted my head and asked myself, “where the hell am I and who the fuck are you?”

Anyway, I have been able to stay somewhat productive during this black hole of time, forming several partnerships along the way that I will be updating you all on soon.  Think webisodes.  Think short films.  Think features.

Sooner than that however, I will post the N-Demand video and website, so that you may all marvel at top 40’s hits, epically reproduced in a medly that is sure to dizzify.
