Luke 11:17 Nominated for Webby!

In an awesome and glorious moment for the Internet, a consortium of virtual individuals known as The Webby Awards have nominated my good friend’s show, Luke 11:17, for a Webby.

It’s kind of like an Oscar for the Internet.

I encourage everyone to vote for this show.  It’s dark, edgy and stylistically beyond any of the other shows.  Plus, I really like it.  It actually goes places.  Things happen.  There’s a story.

Go to:  http://www.webbyawards.com and register on the right hand side.  Once you do, they will send you an email with an activation code.  Once you’re activated, scroll down to the DRAMA: INDIVIDUAL EPISODE and find LUKE 11:17.

Click the vote button next to the show and then just be patient.  It seems like it’s not doing anything, but eventually it will take you to a page where you will see the vote tally.

Little Pieces Doc Begins!

Posted in Family Grief, Little Pieces, The Biz on April 13th, 2009 by Phil Abatecola

Venturing out on what will be a several year process, I’ve begun my production-by-peace-meal documentary on my family that is linked to my short/feature entitled Family Grief.  This is my first documentary and something I’ve been thinking about for years now.

Shooting on the Red One camera with my amazing director of Photography, Liz Rubin, we captured some beautiful moments along with a wonderfully moving interview with my immigrant grandmother whose personality is not only camera gold, but whose story is deeply inspiring.

This installment with my grandmother covered the gamut.  From our family history and how my predecessors grew and made all of their own food and wine to the two biggest trouble makers in our family… Joey and Johnny, my uncles.

We get to see our family matriarch go through the process of making pasta and pizza from scratch, something cliched to many, but common and binding for us.

The footage is beautiful.

I’m very happy with the way the Red performed and its aesthetic.

Right now, I’m re-tooling the main page for Family Grief to accommodate the new direction.  Once complete, I’ll begin posting so you can all tag along and learn a thing or two about a real Italian family.
